THE CLASSES:

Introductory Rhythm and Drumming Classes

(preschool - kindergarten)

Studies suggest that babies may be born with a predisposition to move rhythmically in response to a beat.  The purpose of the Introductory Rhythm and Drum Class is to broaden this natural response with the introduction of specific beat patterns and rhythms to play to.A variety of percussive instruments are used along with interactive games, storytelling, songs, and movement to create an energizing and joyful experience. This class is a great foundation for the SEWA Drum Kids classes as well.

I can bring a class to your community (even parties) or you can come to mine.

SEWA DRUM KIDS

(1st - 6th grade)

Drumming is a great way to de-stress and reenergize after a long school day. In these classes, students will learn to play traditional West African rhythms. They will also learn the cultural information behind the rhythms and a variety of key concepts important to playing the djembe. The lessons are multi-sensory to accommodate all learning styles. They are also modified for individual students as needed.

Currently, I am only offering classes at Clemson Elementary's after school program on Monddays from 3:30 - 4:15pm (time may vary).  Students must be registered in the after school program to take this class. Each series runs for 5 weeks. The cost is $60 per series.

New class series dates will be posted on the Home page. Go to the Contact page to register.

Other schools and private groups are welcome to contact if you are interested in classes for your community.

WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS AND PARENTS SAYING?

Drumming has been great for our son. He has ADHD and it has done wonders for his focus and self-confidence.

It makes me feel happy inside. - Ashby, age 6

I love drumming because when I hit the drum I feel free and let go. - Shelby, age 12

I never get bored.  We play so many different rhythms. - Hannah, age 8

My 7 year old daughter has been drumming with Susan for almost 3 years now and I can't tell you how much of a difference it has made in her life! She has much more self confidence and it has really given her a love for West African music. She is always excited to go to drumming class and loves to practice the rhythms she's learned in class on her djembe at home. Susan is an amazing teacher and my family and I are privileged that she has brought so much joy and music to all of our lives!!!
